I hope too. Otherwise we have no choice expect seeing this project dead...

Not dead, just on the road I think.
Wait 'til next year, don't give up so fast.

I keep watching. The life sciences section of BOINC has certainly seen some attrition this year.

Not dead yet, but slow... Michela has found a student sysadmin who his helping her out setting up the machines, but the last couple of weeks have been mostly final exams so you know how that goes. I've been pretty busy with my own new job, so couldn't spent much time debugging the new docking server myself: there are some problems getting the web site up and there are some firewall issues at UDel it seems as we can't get through to the server. The sysadmin (Jason) is finding out where this firewall is hiding out. Michela is also busy with hiring a new postdoc who is going to be busy learning all about docking@home and work on the computer science research in the project. Hopefully that new person will be here somewhere in January. Then of course there's still Trilce, Michela's PhD student who moved to DE with us, who also had a lot of studying to do the last months. She's working on genetic algorithm stuff to make D@H (and eventually BOINC) more smarter in scheduling jobs.

Well, that's it for the update for now. Hope that helped explain things a bit. Glad to see that all of you are hanging around here. D@H will be back eventually, you can count on that :-) How would Arnold say that again? I'll be back baby!!

Thanks a lot for the update, Andre! We crunchers need that from time to time when it's getting too silent in here... :-)

Sure we all know that moving and starting a new job isn't always easy... and if a whole project is moving there may be some more 'surprises' which slow down the overall progress. But I'm very glad to hear we will see Terminator@Home, errrrm... Docking@Home back alive in the nearer future! *grin*

Greetings to Michela and the rest of the D@H staff from here! We're keeping our fingers crossed for the new start. :-)))

Hello everybody! We've just moved over the D@H web site to the new URL http://docking.cis.udel.edu. See the news on the front page for more details. A small first step, but still a step :-)

Cheers and a merry X-mas to everybody!

Andre

PS We still have to add an email relay to this server so we can send out emails to everybody again.

Fixed the scheduler. You should be able to connect your boinc client to D@H's new URL (http://docking.cis.udel.edu) now. You won't get any work yet though :-)

Cheers

Looks like we might be able to generate some work after X-mas and I guess you guys are the first to get it :-) Probably some of the old utep stuff first for testing and as soon as Michela can get her students to work on this, new docking problems will follow.

Happy holidays!
Andre

PS Good point about the stats, didn't think of those... what's the best way of reaching all of the stats sites to let them know about the new url?

First way, don't use a re-direct from UTEP for the /stats directory or RPC's. They will very quickly note that their stats are not updating and will come to the project page to see if the project is down - there they will see it is not and upon investigating, will see the new URL in the news. Alternatively, do use a re-direct and nobody will notice it ever changed - poor solution but effective.

The RSS feed is another source. Most teams/stats sites have at least one person subscribed to all the project RSS feeds. I saw the current news is already front page at BOINCStats.com.

Forum post in a few of the big active projects grabs the attention of a few "regulars" who will bump their team managers. Grape vine works faster then light.

I don't think it is a real problem Andre, the stats sites pride themselves in getting the numbers to the punters, they'll find out.

What an awesome Christmas present. I've got two new hosts attached, one running Fedora and one running XP Pro. If you're ever interested in Linux vs Windows performance again, the Fedora hosts boots to Vista too.

Just having a look at the Docking web site and found that I can now reattach.
Have rejoined my 3 Linux machines without trouble.
My Windows machine is no longer at the same address so it may have to wait, but I am hoping to have another machine build very soon.

Very good news, it has been 180 days since we last got work.

Hope everyone has a very good year.

Live it to the users, word gets around fast.

Willy of BOINCstats updated on December 24th.

I just left a post on MundayWeb as I did not see Neil had been notified yet.

I do not know all the other stat sites, but word will get around quickly.

Happy New Year.

Sorry for being absent for some time. Michela is training a new student, Abel Licon, who will be devoting most of his time to D@H and is currently getting up to speed on things (setting up a boinc server, compiling charmm, etc, etc). I'm hoping things will be happening fairly soon now!

Cheers

hi,
We plan to start distributing 1tng workunits on Friday to make sure that these important issues work:
1. New Homogeneous Redundancy with Charmm;
2. New screensaver for windows
3. Upgrade of server after relocation.

If everything is fine we will start distributing new complexes next week. When I am sure everything is working, I will send an e-mail inviting all the volunteers to join again.

Please stay tuned !

cheers,
Arun

Anyway I'll let it connect to the main project so that it should be ready for new workunits :D

Right now we are testing by distributing work for Docking@home and some people connected to the project are getting work. Checkout the new screensaver and give us your comments (Sorry, the screensaver is for windows only now).

Hello!
Congratulation; so far running for about 2 minutes estimated by start 2 and a half hour, progress bar working nicely!

But ....
When trying to show /looking at the graphics pitch black during the running time for the wu!
The same on both of my pc's that have got work!

Hope this will help You a bit on the way to a perfect project!
Nice start anyway!

At first it is going to take time to build the grid and show the graphics. If you don't see any graphics during the whole execution of the workunit, please tell us.

This is what should happen
* When you click on show graphics you should get a screen that has low level and high tab. And sections for Protein, Ligand, Complex and resources.

* Protein (click on protein) will be blank while the grid is being built, and the ligand (click on ligand) will be blank until it is loaded. When both of them are loaded, you should see them docking.

To be clear, are you able to see anything or the whole screen is blank ?

cheers

Noticed the same behaviour (especially the 'blank' screen saver on my P4, Win XP 32-bit).
On my dual core lappy (running under Win XP 64 bit) the screensaver shows nicely and I can click all functions in "low level" mode.

Btw: Found one computational error on that Win x64-lappy:
CPU time 244.25
stderr out

<core_client_version>5.10.45</core_client_version>

Hi!
On the two other pc's the Charmscreen opens up, but nothing happens, look like a cleaned blackboard !

On my vista home with intel 7300 cpu it is working alright just as You describes ; no problem at all!

Hans Sveen

Ps: After the first wu's are finished, the running time seems to increase, nut still no real screensaver!

hi all,
does anyone have a 32-bit windows machine on which the screensaver is working ? Also can you please try by detaching and reattaching to the project and see if it works ?

I posted a couple of responses in the "Screensaver" thread. BTW, resetting the project didn't fix it.

Btw: I just noticed on my XP 64-bit lappy that checkpointing doesn't work.
I had to restart my lappy and when restarting BOINC the percentage continued where it was left but the cpu time was reset to zero. ;-)

Same black screensaver as others have reported.

Detaching worked. Re-attaching did not work via BoincView ... for some reason it couldn't see that I had a host that was no longer attached. However when I went over to the box and used the boinc client to re-attach locally, it worked.

So, you might not care about the behavior with BoincView except that it still works for other projects, and for those with farms remote admin is necessary (though there are other options than BV)

All the above is on Windows XP(32) SP3 using client 5.10.45.
Haven't received any mac-intel work yet.

I got my host attached to the project completely new, and I noticed no problem with the workunits.
But Checkpointing doesn't work. Was it set to off?

Yes re-attaching worked for me too. Also I reattached 2 other hosts successfully via BoincView. I'll try the problematic host again just for grins, after it's finished its current wu.

I see that the mac applications (both PPC and Intel) have not been updated like the rest. Does that mean that the tasks crunched by macs will still have the validation problem? Should we even try crunching them with Macs at this time?

Try couple of WUs on your mac and see. It may work, as the HR stuff is handled by the server.

I get the same error on my Linux machines, although somehow I did get a single WU on the 4th on one Linux computer that completed in 298 seconds as valid but pending, now I can get no work.

FYI, the server is issuing tasks from the same WU to the same machine. Here is an example:

http://docking.cis.udel.edu/workunit.php?wuid=1287

I am don't know if this is intentional or not. I sure hope it validates! =;^)

Edit: It appears that my intel mac pulled down BOTH tasks for ALL of the WUs I downloaded. Same for my PPC machine. I must be the only one testing. I'll add some more to try to get some cross pollination to actually test the validator/HR.

(WinXP SP3)
I like the tabs... ;-)

Got the first one running at this moment, let see what happens.
