I joined the project yesterday. A workunit with a projected time of 4 hours has been running but is still at zero percent.

I just witnessed the elapsed working time reset to zero while I was looking at tasks running. It never gets past a few minutes of run time and progress never passes zero.

I am also running Seti@home. I have been running Seti on BOINC with no problems, ususally with two tasks running. Now I have one Seti and one Docking task running. Application shows as Charmm

Computer is dual core Intel. Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1.

I am not running any form of screen saver.

I leave it running all the time with the monitor off.

Preferences are set to 100% to Seti and 50% to docking. I would expect that to provide 2/3 of my process time to Seti and 1/3 to Docking. Correct?

Why would the Work Unit be resetting?

New work unit is doing the same thing.

I have Suspened Docking so that Seti can get some work done while this gets figured out or I withdraw from the project. Perhaps there is an issue with compat. with my system.

Hi Ed, sorry to hear that you have this issue. Our testing machines are crunching OK. Still we must look into this issue. What is the job name you had?

Computer is dual core Intel. Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1.

What chipset does your motherboard use and is it 32 or 64 bit version of Windoze 7 you are using?

Some Intel chipsets seem to have an issue with Docking when running W7 x84.

Can you let me know the host id of the compute with problem? I can only see two hosts under your user name, and both of them are not active in the last 30 days.

Thanks,

If you click "My Account", and then go to "Computers on this account" and click "View", click "Show All Computers", the number in the "Computer ID" column is the host id, and you can click it and see the detail information and check which one has been working on the work units. I can only see 2 computers in your account, and they have not been active for 2 years. Can you please check? Thanks!

I've just noticed I have the same problem on 2 of my 3 computers. Two units (one on each computer) wasted 23 hours of time with 0% progress before I stopped them. They were obviously ready to run forever. I am sorry but I have to give up Docking until fixed.

Same problem here:

my computer

project new attach

first downloaded WU n° 25027953 --> 40 minutes without progress, CPU 100%, aborted
then WU n° 25052553 --> 10 min, same results

project reset

3 new WUs (25050634....), tried with one of them, same problem

project detach

Other projects are working well (WCG), no high temperature issues, no overclock etc. etc...

Maybe I'll try again ;)

mmmhhhhh... it seems that the problem is not so small...

Docking@home is the POTM for BOINC.Italy and have already 4 users with the same problem... quite sure all of them are new to this project (fresh apps & files download)

BTW... my 6 WUs, those of my last message, seem to be still in progress but I can confirm I detached!

It looks to me that the work units have problems running on Intel processor.
AMD processors run fine. Can anyone collaborate this?

Saw this thread and thought I'd test this.
Added 2 intel machines & 2 AMD machines
confirmed, both intels hang on the first WU, ran them up to 20 hours, no change
both AMDs complete and report WUs without problems

That's an interesting problem that you have there :)
Hope you can fix it soon.

It seems I'm getting the same problem...the time remaining column is expended, there is zero progress in the progress bar, and the two WU's I started have been crunching for over 6 hours. If I recall this may be the reason I detached from Docking the last time. It is oviously a serious problem that needs fixing. Maybe docking isn't up to speed with recent BOINC client updates or versions. All of my other projects run just fine without any such errors.

I just rejoined the project and found it was the reason why I previously terminated this project. Zero progress bar, WU's not terminating the process, etc.

When I get around to it I will try to install Windows 8 onto a new hard drive and see if the problem extends into Windows 8 64 bit. I have another post here going back to June of 2011 and the problem clearly has not been solved. So suspending the project for now.

Unknown wether it is a processor specific problem, or Win764bit problem, in which case its just otherwise bad project coding on the 64 bit Win7 platform.

The only few INP files I found contained this html code.

<soft_link>../../projects/docking.cis.udel.edu/1t7k1htf_mod0014crossdockinghiv1_66702_386423.inp</soft_link>

Also is there some reason the .jpg image files associated with the screen saver elements cannot be viewed with any image viewer? I tried viewing them and they are reported as either corrupt, damaged, or too large. 70 bytes rules out too large.

Hi,

Thanks for the information!! We are working on reproducing the problem with some machines in the lab, stay tuned!

And can you please let me know the jpg file name that you were trying to open? Thanks a lot!

Hello.

I'm running Docking on two Windows7 machines.
One runs fine, and the other gets stuck with "0% progress bar".

[1] Running fine
- Intel Core i3-380M (notebook)
- Windows 7 64bit (no service pack)
- Memory 8GB
- BOINC client 6.12.34(windows_x86_64)
- Host details

[2] Zero progress bar
- Intel Core i7-3770 (on Intel H77 chipset motherboard)
- Windows 7 64bit (no service pack)
- Memory 16GB
- BOINC client 6.12.34(windows_x86_64)
- Host details

Other notes
- Even if I [Suspend work / Abort task / Quit BOINC Manager], charmm34_6.23_windows_x86_64 process remains active and eating up cpu core(s).
- *.inp files are NOT zero bytes
- On showing Graphics, it says "No Model Formed Yet."
- On showing Properties, "Elapsed time" is increasing, but "CPU time" remains "---" (zero seconds).

Try detaching the project, then re-attach without the screensaver component.
If I recall correctly, I had to do that when I first joined.

Have these computers been running all the time and have just started this problem, or have you just linked them to the project?

What should I do to "re-attach without the screensaver component"?

Have these computers been running all the time and have just started this problem, or have you just linked them to the project?

I just linked these machines to this project.
Host #1 (Core i3-380M) have been running fine since Oct 26,2011.
Host #2 (Core i7-3770) have been always 0% progress since May 02,2012.

Well there is a data point for the Project managers, This is not a new problem, but it seems to only crop up in certain projects with certain hardware configurations. May be a PITA to diagnose this one.

Regarding the screensaver, which I know causes issues with many projects;

Easiest way is to right-click on your desktop, select 'Personalize' and either change the screensaver to something else, or better yet, given the current problems nVidia has with its display drivers, disable the screensaver altogether.

OR; try deleting your current Boinc manager from your machine altogether.
Download and re-install the latest version of your preferred manager. During the installation process, there should be an option about using the Boinc Screensaver; make sure that is NOT chosen.

Then go ahead and re-attach your projects to the manager. Hopefully problem solved.

Hello Simba123.
Thank you for replying.

I tried the following :
- switched my screensaver to Windows standard "Blank"
- re-installed BOINC manager with screensaver option UNCHECKED
- re-attached Docking@home project

but nothing changes. (still 0.000% progress)

I think it's about time to give up crunching Docking@home on my 2nd machine.
Thank you again.

That's unfortunate,
seems there is something in your hardware configuration that does not like Docking; I cannot for the life of me think of what it may be though.

You may get a message from one of the genius' here after the weekend with some advice.

Don't give up hope just yet ;)

Since I moved from XP to windows 7 all docking wu fail to progress and I am forced abort them after the expected run time is exceeded with 0% completed.

Since I moved from XP to windows 7 all docking wu fail to progress and I am forced abort them after the expected run time is exceeded with 0% completed.

That's strange. Are you running the 64 or 32 bit Windows version?
Also, could you list your other hardware?
As mentioned earlier, It does seem that the Docking program does have issues with certain hardware/software combinations. Your information could help track it down.
If you could list your motherboard, cpu, ram brand & capacity, any overclocks & GPU that would assist greatly.

Also, is your Windows fully up to date with all patches etc?

Same question for your motherboard drivers and BIOS.

Don't see why hardware would be a problem since Bonic ran very well for over 3 years under XP. I am running the 32 bit version of windows 7 which is up to date. Have dialed back to Bionic version 6.12.34 and Docking still fails to progress. Don't know windows 7 well enough to extract the hardware info you are requesting please provide a step by step.

Not a hardware problem as such. It just seems that Docking does not agree with certain hardware setups and Windows 7.

Make sure you right click and select 'run as administrator' when you run BOINC.

easiest way to get your system specs is to download a program called Speccy, available here : http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download

Thanks Chip,
It seems that some older 45nm CPUs and Windows 7 do not work with
Docking. Obviously your hardware works with Docking as you've used this machine under Windows XP for 3 years without issue.
So there is something about Windows 7. About the only thing I can suggest is that you go to
Dell.com and download all the latest drivers for your motherboard.

Annoyingly dell does not let me post a link to the correct screen. By the looks of it you have an Optiplex 780, if you can find the service tag sticker on the machine, you'll be able to enter that number in and it will give you the download options.
otherwise search under 'optiplex 780' and it should come up.

I can't say this will fix anything, but it might.

The downloads are finished and Docking still won't progress. I just aborted two wu that had run for more than a hour and reported 0.00% complete. I reset Docking and marked it for no new tasks. Wish you well and better luck with Windows 8.
