This task has been running for over three hours and has yet to show any progress. The computer it's running on normal finishes in just under two hours.

I've tried suspending and resuming the task and the project - neither made any difference. Restarting the whole BOINC program caused the task to reset to zero time and then start all over again, still with no progress.

Anything else I should try before I abort it?

Right now we are solving the problem with the download partition. The work-unit generator suddenly generated a lot of work-units some days ago that we erased but the result collector did not properly erased the files from the download partition that got full. Now the result collector is erasing the old workunits, the download is getting the space back, and we are monitoring the system. Once the daemons have gained our trust once again, we will move on to this challenge below.

Please stay tune!

Michela, would you like me to keep my work unit on suspend until you get a chance to investigate, or just abort it?

This problem seems to be due to an empty .inp file. I had this workunit run with no progress being made. I checked the docking project folder and the .inp file had a filesize of 0 bytes. I had another .inp file of the same complex that was the correct filesize so I stopped boinc client, made a copy of the correct size .inp file editing it to change the seed to the correct number of the 0 filesize input task. I then deleted the 0 byte input file, renamed the copied/edited one to match the 0 byte name and restarted boinc client. The task then ran successfully, reported and validated.

I am not sure if they show zero progress before they hit 100% or not, but here are three that show 0 progress and are over the time most complete.

this is a 64 bit linux machine but I did just have one fail on this windows desktop. It generated a popup dialog box as well. Unfortunately, I did not record the details of the error.

suggests that 0 byte .inp files may be the fault.

This problem was due to the download partition error. You got empty inp files, so no progress can be made, you need to abort those workunits.

It would be very time demanding and even problematic to do what BobCat13 did, which indeed was one solution, but for less experienced BOINC users could cause more problems than what it might solve, not only for your personal results but for the project too.

I'm so sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your posts

I just attached to this project with many hosts..

Too many to go to each host and do this.. Can I just reset the project on these hosts, would it take care of the problem ? Or is a detach/re-attach more in the making.

Hi zeitgeistmovie.com,

According to other posts a reset is not going to solve the problem, maybe a detach-reattach will be better for this case.

Ok will do - hate to do that, but I can do it via BAM - 6 hours to detach all hosts, and issue a re-attach

Same here! Had 2 of those jobs, cancelled them, the next two show the same problem. All of them are 1dh4* jobs

Michela

Still get 20 or so of these per day.

20/day??

Wow, I've seen 4 across my 3 quads, 3 duals, and 3 singles (since the initial onslaught was over. They're 50/50 docking/primegrid)and the last was on/about
the 25th and they were resends.

Guess you're just lucky.

And there I was thinking we were past those nasty things (from my vantage point anyway). Hmmm, I've set a </= 2 day cache(was 2 day, but lowered to .33
in preparation for Simap run), so maybe yours is higher and just managed to grab a bunch of bad ones during a stocking up period??

I was running about 90% Docking for a week, so picked up more than usual. By the time I see them in the morning, the core running those WUs has wasted 2-4 hours. Only had one this morning, so maybe they are being flushed out of the system.

You need three three-core CPUs and you'll have a real nice set....LOL

Have not had one of these in two days now. Maybe they are finally out of the system.
