I'm having a stupid problem.
Docking as been running flawlessly for more than a year.
About 1 to 2 months ago, docking units started to hang.
Now is permanent. I'm able to do other units (Milkway and Seti).

Anyone can help?

I have not had any Docking wu's hang on any machines. Difficult to know where to start here.

Did you change anything locally before it started? Might not be easy to remember details from that far back but anything change "about that time". Drivers, software, hardware, OS, BOINC?

The "hang", do wu's begin and stop? Do they stop at the same point, (you say 0.00% so it may be difficult to say)? Does the stop coincide with something else, anti-virus run, reboot that kind of thing?

What sort of machine is it, running what OS/version?

I think MW and Seti are GPU also projects. Are you running that way? Are you running any other CPU only projects on the machine if so, with what result?

Yap, got three other machines, and everything going fine...

Nothing changed. Windows 7, steady as a rock.

They simply don't start. Time goes on and on, and always 0.00%.

What sort of machine is it, running what OS/version?

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7100] 32b, Q9400, 4Gb RAM

I'm running Seti, Docking and Milkway

Have you tried to crunch another CPU only project to see if it works, a POEM or Rosetta task for example?

I'm on thin ice here because I don't have a GPU.

After one day, no problem at all with rosetta.
It seems that my problem is contained in Docking.

I reported the same problem in November. All other BOINC projects running smoothly (Rosetta, ClimatePrediction, World Community, Seti) The work units from Docking will run for hours (I allowed one to run for several days) and the progress reported is 0.00%. I have uninstalled, cleaned up and reinstalled latest BOINC but still have to abort Docking work units to get them to stop. I detached from the project but keep checking back to see if the issue has been resolved.

Hmm, 2 more 64 bit Windows 7 systems, but also an x86.

Are you guys also running other BOINC, CPU tasks okay, (Rosetta, POEM etc.)?

I have the same problem with docking.
Rosetta and SETI in the same machine works.
Task manager report process Docking occupies 500/600k memory.
Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit (upgrade from vista)
Kaspersky antivirus 2010 (no scan in folder BOINC)

Beginning to look like one for the developers isn't it.

As an addmitedly rather weak experiment, I ran wu's on my other systems here, all ran without issue, but they are pretty similar so doesn't show much really.

As reported earlier on another thread I have no problems with Windows 7 64 bit on an ***AMD*** Phenom II. It seems isolated to Intel.

Well.
Going to stop receiving units...
Had one running for 65 hours and other for 33 hours, and still happening.
In the mean time i've crunched quite a few of Rosetta, Seti and Milkway...

Probably a good idea to post any more about this matter in the other thread to make it easier for Trilce et al.

Also experiencing the same problem with Docking now, which, as others have stated, ran quickly and flawlessly until this latest WU. I've now been running it for approximately 20 hours at it remains at 0%, even though it is consuming resources.

All other WUs - Seti, Rosetta, and Cosmology are running perfectly.

At this rate my GPU will never make the deadline......

My Intel system with Windows 7 won't run Docking WU's Rosetta WU's working fine. This started less than a week ago. I've reloaded BONIC client and still won't work.

I just had to abort a couple of zero percent jobs that had been running for over 12 hours.

I run a number of other projects across three or four PCs and this is the only project I'm seeing this on.

Hi Beardybloke and Jerry, did you still observe this problem?

I've only just recently joined Docking@Home but I've been having the same problem. I now have D@H running on 6 different computers and only 1 of them is giving me any trouble (in the last day or 2 I've installed BOINC on several systems and tested Docking workunits). The workunit is constantly restarting and reporting 0.000% no matter how long it runs before restarting again. Also it would continue running even when suspended until I exited BOINC completely.

I have had the problem with previous workunits several days ago however I just aborted them, waited a few days and tried again. This time I decided to have a look at the forum, as Docking seemed to be working fine on my other systems.

The computer giving me the trouble is this one: http://docking.cis.udel.edu/community/show_host_detail.php?hostid=71403
Intel Core2 DUO E7500 (Wolfdale) w/ 4GB DDR2 RAM running Windows 7 Ultimate x64

The workunit in question is: http://docking.cis.udel.edu/community/workunit.php?wuid=13717523

18/07/2010 2:40:36 PM Docking Restarting task 1hvi1d4j_mod0014crossdockinghiv1_427791_227633_0 using charmm34 version 623
18/07/2010 3:59:52 PM Docking Restarting task 1hvi1d4j_mod0014crossdockinghiv1_427791_227633_0 using charmm34 version 623
18/07/2010 4:45:57 PM Docking Restarting task 1hvi1d4j_mod0014crossdockinghiv1_427791_227633_0 using charmm34 version 623

This is all I get in the logs, it just simply keeps saying restarting, no other information. The .inp file is 1.14mb in size and ends with "goto donereadpdbfile5" (as I came across similar threads with 0mb .inp files).

Please let me know if you need any other information or have any suggestions, for now I will just have to suspend Docking on this computer. This system has no trouble running other projects (I've run climateprediction, SETI, spinhenge, hydrogren, worldcommunitygrid, milkyway & rosetta).

For the sake of information, here are the setups of the other 5 systems which I've tested and worked fine:

2x AMD Phenom II X4 965 w/ 4GB DDR3 RAM running Windows 7 Home Premium x64 & Windows 7 Professional x64
Intel Core2 Duo E6550 (Conroe) w/ 4GB DDR3 RAM running Windows 7 Home Premium x64
Intel Core2 Duo T7500 (Merom) w/ 2GB DDR2 RAM running Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 32-bit
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ w/ 3GB DDR RAM running a variety of Windows 7 Ultimate x64, Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 and Windows Home Server V2 Beta (test system)

Since a couple of months we are running cross-docking simulations. We take the conformation of a protein and dock it to a ligand that was not found docked to that protein conformation experimentally. This is an important process to simulate flexibility of the protein. Unfortunately in some cases the simulation seems to have problems. We are collecting this information:

1) name of the job
2) OS and machine features

because we want to understand whether it is a general problem across conformations or an isolated issue with specific conformations.

Reproducing the issue seems very challenging and we are working on this.

Thanks,

Michela

I forgot to mention in my previous post (2 above this one) that I was running BOINC 6.10.56 x86. After waiting to see if the work unit was going to work I upgraded to v6.10.58 x64 and tried again, which failed and is when I made the post.

I decided to try another work unit today to see if I would have the same problem (running BOINC 6.10.58 x64 from the start). I had detached all projects and started from scratch, using the same computer . Same problem, constant restarting.

The work unit this time is: http://docking.cis.udel.edu/community/workunit.php?wuid=13832692

I have the full log of when I started BOINC until now (which I'll post below as a quote), please let me know if I can provide any more information to help find a solution to this problem =)

Well it has been running for 40 hours, 9 minutes and 24 seconds without interruption, still reporting 0% complete. It didn't restart during this time but as soon as I closed and re-opened BOINC it did restart and 17 seconds in after the restart it reported a computation error.

Same problem. Win7 with rosetta and eOn running but attempts to run docking on this machine are fruitless. First try ran 9 hrs 33 min, waited two weeks, reloaded all and same problem.

Will check back in a couple of months to see if this long term problem is fixed.

Bottom line D@H will not run on Windows 7. I switched to other projects months ago and just checking to see if the problem has been resolved. It appears it has not, just tried, with the same non-results. WU gets to 100% and just keeps running and never completes.

Guys, I think this may be another abandoned BOINC project, or at the very least the few people that are still working on it, do not care or respect us enough to post on there own message board and at least say we are aware of the problem and are working on it. I have been reading the threads here and the last post they had on this thread was July, 2010. This tells me they either don't care, have run out of funding and are no longer working on this project, or some other ubiquitous thing. What ever the reason, I am giving them 2 weeks to at least reply to the simple problem I am having with BOINC wide teams before I remove all of my machines from this project and add other projects that want and need my CPU cycles.

I just wanted to put an update in here. They have apparently fixed part of the problem with BOINC-wide teams. I can now join the team here, but Docking@home does not talk with BOINCstats/BAM! correctly and thusly can't be used in BAM! to manage your BOINC projects.

So in short, they may be doing something, it would just be nice if they posted here more than just two or three times a year.

Same problem here.

Windows Seven 64bit, Intel SU9400 CPU. Docking is always 0,00%, Rosetta@Home goes flawless. I stopped Docking, tried to restart and to ask a new job. Fail.

Any idea?

I'm gonna try with an AMD machine with the same profile... I'll let u know.

with an AMD 5050E with windows seven 64 bit it works. I did nothing special.

The different is that, after some seconds, in the graphic mode, I can see a model, in the Intel machine there is not any model showed.

Atom N270 over windows XP service pack 3. It showed the model and the progress goes on.

Still no idea why my Intel SU9400 doesn't show the model staying at 0,000% forever :( I had to block the project...

My computers all affected by the same problem, normally a model in one task will be recreated in less than 20 seconds (showed 1.0000%) and completed in about 6 hours, but this time, all the tasks never reach 1.0000% in more than 60 hours. This is unbelieveable.
BTW, I have 12 computers and servers to run tasks of Docking@Home, no task completed in last 3 days.

I also see this "No progress" problem with one D@H work unit. While other D@H work units quickly show 1% progress, and then show higher percentages over time, this one is at 0% after 7+ hours (does not seem to be checkpointing). A curious thing is the Task manager reports the Memory Use (Private Working Set) is very low (564K), but CPU use is max'd/high.

OS: Windows 7, 64-bit
CPU: Intel Core2 Duo
Image name: charmm34_6.23_windows_x86_64 *32
Work unit: 1hvi1hbv_mod0014crossdockinghiv1_20486_209434_0

I saw something similar with the Technion-Superlink BOINC project on Windows 7 64-bit (low memory use and no progress) and that got fixed.

Dear All, a new update from D@H:

1) We are in a recovery mode. In other words, we are collecting and validating results but we are not generating and distributing new jobs for the moment, while we are investigating what caused the problem yesterday.

2) Please bear with us. We do not have a full time system administrator taking care of D@H but the work is done by students. They are doing their very best but they have also classes and homework. We are dedicating the weekend on understanding the problem and fixing it.

Thanks for your several notes and support.

We are back distributing jobs. We removed all the jobs with potential 0% progress that were in our database. Unfortunately some jobs were distributed by the time we worked on the database. Can you please abort those jobs with 0% progress and get new jobs?

Thanks,

windows 7, dual core Intel

No screen saver running

Windows Home Premium - service Pack 1

I manually aborted first work unit after a day. Second is doing the same thing.

Have suspended Docking to let Seti run on both cores. I have been running Seti with no problems.

Hi Ed =) I don't know if they resolved the problem (from the continued posts I would guess not) but from my experience and what I could gather from other posts this only seemed to affect computers with Intel Core2 Duo processors which had the Wolfdale chipset. The problem seems isolated to that specific processor, so the workunits should work fine on other computers and indeed I have run it on several others, all of which had different processors.

this is just a semi-educated guess though and I could be wrong.

I am having similar hang issues on an AMD Athlon 64 x2(32bit windows), as well as as AMD Phenom II. A few WU's hang at 0%, but 2 have hung at 1% for quite a long time. They are using CPU power.

Hi all. I'm having the same problem! The issue is that on May I updated my computer's motherboard and CPU to Pentium Dual-Core E5400 2,7 Ghz, keeping my Win XP os. On September I migrated to Win 7 64bit. And from that moment Docking works are stuck in 0% but using processor.
All other projects are working smoothly.
My solution is to stop Docking, using my computer's spare time with the other proyects I'm into, Einstein@Home, Ibercivis ans Seti@Home

Kind regards.

Detached 2 years ago because of the ongoing problems with core2duo.
Reattached today, downloaded 10 wu and the first one hung and kept
restarting for four hours. De-attaching again. Be back in 2 or three years to see if you've managed to fix the bugs. Bye.

Hello, I have downloaded the new version 7.0.28 X64 this week and have installed.
Also after several hours the progress is still on 0%.
Meanwhile this functions download from tasks now also no more and the download is broken off.
I have Windows7 Ultimate, Ati HD6570 GPU, Phenom XII 965 CPUs.

I'm having the same problem as the guy directly above me. I uninstalled and reinstalled boinc and even removed docking at home and reattached it several times. It seemed to only fix the problem temporarily. Now it won't download new workunits and is saying "communication deferred" when I click update. I think this may be a problem on you guys end.

I'm also seeing this problem... I came to a Windows XP/SP3 machine running BOINC 6.2.28 (and has been running it fine for years) only to discover it had been crunching the same 2 work units for nearly 80 hours with 0.000% progress and no checkpoints logged on the Messages tab
(I have

<cc_config>
<log_flags>
<checkpoint_debug>1</checkpoint_debug>
</log_flags>
<options>
<start_delay>30</start_delay>
</options>
</cc_config>

in %All UsersProfile%\Application Data\BOINC\cc_config.xml).

In my opinion, this is worse than the 'computation error' problem, since it doesn't release the CPU to work on other projects like WCG, Einstein, et al.

I tried restarting the service, and the CPU time for them did reset to 00:00:00, but after a half hour they were still on 0.000% so I aborted all the Docking work units I had and downloaded some fresh. I let those run for over a half hour while mining data for this report and they were also still on 0.000% progress when I aborted them moments ago. I have set Docking to 'No New Tasks' on the Projects tab. I just checked a fedora machine in the next room that's running 6.10.45 and found the same thing (Charmm 34a2 6.23; 68+ hours 'Elapsed'; 0.000% 'Progress'). So I'll be checking the rest of my machines for similar behavior, and if found, applying the Abort + 'no new tasks' fix to those, also... until someone here can tell us what's going on.

Thanks. :-|

I've just tried to crunch some Docking WU's.

I use an old Pentium P4 dual core running at 3GHz and Win XP Pro.

Latest BOINC Manager is used (7.0.28) and I have NO issues crunching other projects. (SETI, DistrRTGen, Collatz, etc)

But on Docking, I have the same issues - it runs the WU, the time elapsed increases but the Progress indicator stays at 0.000%.

One clue might be this: WHen a Docking WU is running and I click on "Show Graphics" I get a new window open that says "Protein": "No Model Formed Yet" and "Resources": "Percentage Complete 0%".

As this issue seems to have been going on for at least 2 years, I can only assume that D@H do not have the man-power to fix it.

Also, their website is painfully slow and the FAQ is way out of date.

So, I for one won't be crunching any more Docking WU's until some fixes are made (as I'd prefer my PC's to be doing good work for a "up to date" project, rather than spinning their wheels, for no apparent reason on D@H).

I've just tried to crunch some Docking WU's.

I use an old Pentium P4 dual core running at 3GHz and Win XP Pro.

The issue with 0% progress that has been experienced recently is not the same problem that has been experienced by some running Windows 7/64 with some Intel Hardware. The recent problems have been caused by dodgy WU being released.

Docking on the whole is a very reliable project to crunch, much more reliable than Seti@Home and a few others.

I have been crunching Docking for 3.5 years and this is probably only the second occasion that dodgy WU's have been released.
