I have not had any Docking wu's hang on any machines. Difficult to know where to start here. Yap, got three other machines, and everything going fine... Did you change anything locally before it started? Might not be easy to remember details from that far back but anything change "about that time". Drivers, software, hardware, OS, BOINC? Nothing changed. Windows 7, steady as a rock. The "hang", do wu's begin and stop? Do they stop at the same point, (you say 0.00% so it may be difficult to say)? Does the stop coincide with something else, anti-virus run, reboot that kind of thing? They simply don't start. Time goes on and on, and always 0.00%.
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7100] 32b, Q9400, 4Gb RAM
I'm running Seti, Docking and Milkway |

Have you tried to crunch another CPU only project to see if it works, a POEM or Rosetta task for example?

I reported the same problem in November. All other BOINC projects running smoothly (Rosetta, ClimatePrediction, World Community, Seti) The work units from Docking will run for hours (I allowed one to run for several days) and the progress reported is 0.00%. I have uninstalled, cleaned up and reinstalled latest BOINC but still have to abort Docking work units to get them to stop. I detached from the project but keep checking back to see if the issue has been resolved.

Also experiencing the same problem with Docking now, which, as others have stated, ran quickly and flawlessly until this latest WU. I've now been running it for approximately 20 hours at it remains at 0%, even though it is consuming resources.

I've only just recently joined Docking@Home but I've been having the same problem. I now have D@H running on 6 different computers and only 1 of them is giving me any trouble (in the last day or 2 I've installed BOINC on several systems and tested Docking workunits). The workunit is constantly restarting and reporting 0.000% no matter how long it runs before restarting again. Also it would continue running even when suspended until I exited BOINC completely.

I'm having a stupid problem. Since a couple of months we are running cross-docking simulations. We take the conformation of a protein and dock it to a ligand that was not found docked to that protein conformation experimentally. This is an important process to simulate flexibility of the protein. Unfortunately in some cases the simulation seems to have problems. We are collecting this information: 1) name of the job 2) OS and machine features because we want to understand whether it is a general problem across conformations or an isolated issue with specific conformations. Reproducing the issue seems very challenging and we are working on this. Thanks, Michela ____________ If you are interested in working on Docking@Home in a great group at UDel, contact me at 'taufer at acm dot org'! |

I forgot to mention in my previous post (2 above this one) that I was running BOINC 6.10.56 x86. After waiting to see if the work unit was going to work I upgraded to v6.10.58 x64 and tried again, which failed and is when I made the post.
25/07/2010 11:56:45 AM Starting BOINC client version 6.10.58 for windows_x86_64 I am going to set my BOINC to run always but previously it was restarting even when computation wasn't suspended. ____________ |
||
ID: 5967 | Rating: 0 | rate: /
Well it has been running for 40 hours, 9 minutes and 24 seconds without interruption, still reporting 0% complete. It didn't restart during this time but as soon as I closed and re-opened BOINC it did restart and 17 seconds in after the restart it reported a computation error.

Bottom line D@H will not run on Windows 7. I switched to other projects months ago and just checking to see if the problem has been resolved. It appears it has not, just tried, with the same non-results. WU gets to 100% and just keeps running and never completes.

Guys, I think this may be another abandoned BOINC project, or at the very least the few people that are still working on it, do not care or respect us enough to post on there own message board and at least say we are aware of the problem and are working on it. I have been reading the threads here and the last post they had on this thread was July, 2010. This tells me they either don't care, have run out of funding and are no longer working on this project, or some other ubiquitous thing. What ever the reason, I am giving them 2 weeks to at least reply to the simple problem I am having with BOINC wide teams before I remove all of my machines from this project and add other projects that want and need my CPU cycles. |
||
ID: 6126 | Rating: 0 | rate: /
I just wanted to put an update in here. They have apparently fixed part of the problem with BOINC-wide teams. I can now join the team here, but Docking@home does not talk with BOINCstats/BAM! correctly and thusly can't be used in BAM! to manage your BOINC projects.

My computers all affected by the same problem, normally a model in one task will be recreated in less than 20 seconds (showed 1.0000%) and completed in about 6 hours, but this time, all the tasks never reach 1.0000% in more than 60 hours. This is unbelieveable.

I also see this "No progress" problem with one D@H work unit. While other D@H work units quickly show 1% progress, and then show higher percentages over time, this one is at 0% after 7+ hours (does not seem to be checkpointing). A curious thing is the Task manager reports the Memory Use (Private Working Set) is very low (564K), but CPU use is max'd/high.

Hi Ed =) I don't know if they resolved the problem (from the continued posts I would guess not) but from my experience and what I could gather from other posts this only seemed to affect computers with Intel Core2 Duo processors which had the Wolfdale chipset.The problem seems isolated to that specific processor, so the workunits should work fine on other computers and indeed I have run it on several others, all of which had different processors.

I am having similar hang issues on an AMD Athlon 64 x2(32bit windows), as well as as AMD Phenom II. A few WU's hang at 0%, but 2 have hung at 1% for quite a long time. They are using CPU power. |

Hi all. I'm having the same problem! The issue is that on May I updated my computer's motherboard and CPU to Pentium Dual-Core E5400 2,7 Ghz, keeping my Win XP os. On September I migrated to Win 7 64bit. And from that moment Docking works are stuck in 0% but using processor. All other projects are working smoothly. My solution is to stop Docking, using my computer's spare time with the other proyects I'm into, Einstein@Home, Ibercivis ans Seti@Home Kind regards. |

Hello, I have downloaded the new version 7.0.28 X64 this week and have installed.

I'm having the same problem as the guy directly above me. I uninstalled and reinstalled boinc and even removed docking at home and reattached it several times. It seemed to only fix the problem temporarily. Now it won't download new workunits and is saying "communication deferred" when I click update. I think this may be a problem on you guys end. |

I'm also seeing this problem... I came to a Windows XP/SP3 machine running BOINC 6.2.28 (and has been running it fine for years) only to discover it had been crunching the same 2 work units for nearly 80 hours with 0.000% progress and no checkpoints logged on the Messages tab
<cc_config> <log_flags> <checkpoint_debug>1</checkpoint_debug> </log_flags> <options> <start_delay>30</start_delay> </options> </cc_config> in %All UsersProfile%\Application Data\BOINC\cc_config.xml). In my opinion, this is worse than the 'computation error' problem, since it doesn't release the CPU to work on other projects like WCG, Einstein, et al. I tried restarting the service, and the CPU time for them did reset to 00:00:00, but after a half hour they were still on 0.000% so I aborted all the Docking work units I had and downloaded some fresh. I let those run for over a half hour while mining data for this report and they were also still on 0.000% progress when I aborted them moments ago. I have set Docking to 'No New Tasks' on the Projects tab. I just checked a fedora machine in the next room that's running 6.10.45 and found the same thing (Charmm 34a2 6.23; 68+ hours 'Elapsed'; 0.000% 'Progress'). So I'll be checking the rest of my machines for similar behavior, and if found, applying the Abort + 'no new tasks' fix to those, also... until someone here can tell us what's going on. Thanks. :-

I use an old Pentium P4 dual core running at 3GHz and Win XP Pro. Latest BOINC Manager is used (7.0.28) and I have NO issues crunching other projects. (SETI, DistrRTGen, Collatz, etc) But on Docking, I have the same issues - it runs the WU, the time elapsed increases but the Progress indicator stays at 0.000%. One clue might be this: WHen a Docking WU is running and I click on "Show Graphics" I get a new window open that says "Protein": "No Model Formed Yet" and "Resources": "Percentage Complete 0%". As this issue seems to have been going on for at least 2 years, I can only assume that D@H do not have the man-power to fix it. Also, their website is painfully slow and the FAQ is way out of date. So, I for one won't be crunching any more Docking WU's until some fixes are made (as I'd prefer my PC's to be doing good work for a "up to date" project, rather than spinning their wheels, for no apparent reason on D@H). regards Tim Founder, UK BOINC Team |

The recent problems have been caused by dodgy WU being released. Docking on the whole is a very reliable project to crunch, much more reliable than Seti@Home and a few others. I have been crunching Docking for 3.5 years and this is probably only the second occasion that dodgy WU's have been released. |
