Message boards : Number crunching : Cobblestones ( Message 5235 )Posted 2943 days ago by fractal I have been sitting back quietly crunching for Docking@home for many months. I am not one of the big heavy weights who crunch only for cobbles. I only have four quad core systems dedicated to Docking plus a few part time crunchers. After reading this thread for the third time ... it has been going on for over a year now ... several things are pretty obvious. a. We all know that fixed credits reduce cheating in projects where batches can be adequately benchmarked. b. We all know that docking@home credits are below industry average. c. We all know that nothing has changed in over a year. Plenty of talk, little action. I just reviewed a the completed work on my machines and indeed, it appears that batches are fairly consistent. The active batch is 48 cobbles. Shortly before that was an 83 cobble batch. It seems that you should have a pretty good idea how much processing a work unit should take. Fixed credits with "flag for inspection" on anyone who claims something outside the range of reasonable seems to me to be a no-brainer. If a flagged work unit comes out higher than benchmark, then reward the contributor. If not, and you see a pattern, ban them. Finally, credits are low. You know that. I know that. Everyone knows that. The exact multiplier to conform to industry standard is somewhere near 1.5x what you are granting. You can no longer use SETI as the "gold standard" because the CUDA client is not separated, but the numbers posted over the years show a pretty clear pattern. In summary, I am contributing to docking@home because I think it is doing good work. But, the dc nut in me feels slighted by the below average credits. The claim that you can not adjust credits to a level more consistent with the rest of the field out of fear of attracting too many cheaters does little to satisfy, especially when it seems clear that you are doing batches of fixed size units. |

Message boards : Number crunching : Work Units That Never Want To End ( Message 4960 )Posted 3023 days ago by fractal Exactly the same problem here, Linux and Windows. Cancelling the units clears the problems but new work is full of 1hpv, presumably because everyone is cancelling and so they are being resent. Actually, they are set to 0/1/1 so are canceled the first error. That said, I just noticed a bunch of red units in boincview. All hpv's. All ran 12 1/2 hrs before exceeding cpu, claiming 150 credits and getting none. So, the good news is ... they only fail once. The bad news is they run for 12 hrs instead of 2, and you get no credit. |

Message boards : Wish list : More frequent xml stat updates ( Message 4429 )Posted 3240 days ago by fractal XML stats are currently generated once a day at 20h55. It would be helpful if they could be updated more frequently than once a day. Common update intervals on other projects are every 4, 6 or 8 hours. |

Message boards : Number crunching : Zero Progress ( Message 4400 )Posted 3243 days ago by fractal I am not sure if they show zero progress before they hit 100% or not, but here are three that show 0 progress and are over the time most complete. this is a 64 bit linux machine but I did just have one fail on this windows desktop. It generated a popup dialog box as well. Unfortunately, I did not record the details of the error. Chasing the lead of an earlier post,

Message boards : Number crunching : Moving to Beta D@H ( Message 4381 )Posted 3244 days ago by fractal Should work be taking 4+ hours? Nothing I have done so far has exceeded two hours and most have been right around 1 hour on 2.4-2.5 ghz quads. I now have a number of work units reporting over 4 hours cpu time. Are these normal or a symptom of the server issues? |
