Message boards : Web site : Thread read indication not working ( Message 3879 )Posted 3440 days ago by KSMarksPsych That's good to hear. We'll wait for a fix in the boinc code until investigating further. I guess that means someone should write a Trac ticket... I can put it on my to-do list, but I don't know when I'll have time to sit down and do it properly. |

Message boards : Web site : Thread read indication not working ( Message 3860 )Posted 3450 days ago by KSMarksPsych *sigh* I was tired when I wrote that. I do mean reload, not refresh. And the breadcrumb links are the ones at the head of the forums "Message boards : Web site : Thread read indication not working" where Message boards and Web site are clickable. And I can pretty much confirm it's something in the newest server code. David just updated the BOINC forums and it too is now doing the not reloading of the page using the back button in the browser thing. |

Message boards : Web site : Thread read indication not working ( Message 3848 )Posted 3450 days ago by KSMarksPsych Firefox 2 on Fedora 7 started showing this behavior on projects with new server software (here, Seti/Seti Beta for example). But on projects with old(er) backends, the browser back arrow still will reload the page. Using the refresh button in the browser will update the yellow icons though as will clicking the "breadcrumb" links (I like that term). So my gut feeling is David broke something in the web code. |

Message boards : Number crunching : Welcome Abel, Jason, and Robert! ( Message 3753 )Posted 3455 days ago by KSMarksPsych We have a new set of computers that we plan to set up this weekend. We are planning to test out our new screen saver there and make sure we don't send out our loyal volunteers buggy code. Stay tuned.... Buggy code? Hah! I ain't scared of no buggy code! |

Message boards : Number crunching : Time for some news ( Message 3667 )Posted 3515 days ago by KSMarksPsych Woo Hoo!! What an awesome Christmas present. I've got two new hosts attached, one running Fedora and one running XP Pro. If you're ever interested in Linux vs Windows performance again, the Fedora hosts boots to Vista too. |

Message boards : Cafe Docking : Last one to post here wins! ( Message 3580 )Posted 3608 days ago by KSMarksPsych LOL. I had to save that. But the last line needs changed to "I will eat your brains" because that's what I feel like after trying to figure out Fedora. |

Message boards : Cafe Docking : Last one to post here wins! ( Message 3565 )Posted 3614 days ago by KSMarksPsych I even don't understand too much of what you are talking about that Linux stuff. *grin* :) Most of it I don't understand either. But I smile and nod a lot. |

Message boards : Cafe Docking : Last one to post here wins! ( Message 3563 )Posted 3616 days ago by KSMarksPsych My SuSe machine at work crunches, but frankly, I have no idea what I am doing. I have tried the & thing but still I end up with a mess on the screen. I hear you on the "no idea what I am doing". I stumble around in the dark on a good day. A mess as in you have everything from the message tab in that terminal window? It's my understanding if you start it with the & you can then close the terminal window. You can always run down your cache and try it. Monitor it with `top`. I <3 the script on Eric's page. No more terminal window for me. Well, only one long enough to start the manager. And then it's like being in Windows. |

Message boards : Cafe Docking : Last one to post here wins! ( Message 3559 )Posted 3618 days ago by KSMarksPsych These days I've tried to install linux on my computer. The distro is called "Sabayon", the gentoo-family. I found it interesting in that there's no package provided (in general); the binary is compiled on my own computer, optimising the configuration of compiling. And boinc is also able to be installed in that way! Man... I wouldn't touch anything based on Gentoo with a ten foot pole. I'm not that patient (nor that technically skilled). But yes, I've gotten BOINC up and running on Fedora 7. I followed the directions that Eric Myers put up on his site (and if I can do it, just about anyone can). I had a few bumps in the road, but the documentation has been fixed (Eric used my feedback). http://www.spy-hill.net/~myers/help/boinc/unix.html BOINC should also be in the package managers. I'm not sure how outdated the version is though. |
