Message boards : Number crunching : % done ( Message 1120 )Posted 3939 days ago by Dagorath You trying to put the blame on me for leaving this project is worse than coy it's just plain bitchy. Grow up. grade F Actually I was just informing the forum and the moderators of the silly, coy little game Nightbird enjoys playing. It seems the moderators have no problem with that. Therefore I return your droll little poast stamped with an F. Perhaps re-poast it in alt.ravings.of.clowns.and.lunatics where it's guaranteed to get an A+. |

Alpha project yes and you are allowed to act as silly as you please. You've reported problems on other projects too, I've read your posts, and it always boils down to the fact that you INSIST on running an OLD and NOT RECOMMENDED CC against all advice, and seem to think all the projects should cater you you and your dinosaur. You should know by now that it's your CC that is the root of your problems yet you show up pretending it's something else. That's coy. You trying to put the blame on me for leaving this project is worse than coy it's just plain bitchy. Grow up. No. this meg is not a flame. It's an anti-stupidity pill. |

Message boards : Number crunching : % done ( Message 990 )Posted 3951 days ago by Dagorath I know what BoincView is, I use it here too and it works well if configured to use rpc_gui for data updates rather than state file reads. I was refering to the ancient CC you use and I believe Andre referred to it too. I think you know that yet you play coy for some reason. Keep the old CC and keep the problem, if that's what you wish, but why whine and play coy about it here? |

Message boards : Number crunching : % done ( Message 984 )Posted 3951 days ago by Dagorath This is not a bug in BoincView and i'm running the last version. I am confused. When I go to http://docking.utep.edu/workunit.php?wuid=7873 and click on Result ID 39030 for computer 479 which is your computer I see the following in the report: <core_client_version>4.32</core_client_version> <stderr_txt> Starting charmm run... SUCCESS - Charmm exited with code 0. Resolving file charmm.out... Calling BOINC finish. </stderr_txt> Why does it say version 4.32 if you are running the latest version? |

Message boards : Number crunching : % done ( Message 976 )Posted 3953 days ago by Dagorath I noticed the same problem when experimenting with older BOINC versions. It updates properly with newer versions of BOINC. I see you're running the same BOINC Jesus used when he was crunching. Maybe try the recommended version of BOINC ? |

Message boards : Number crunching : Pending Credits Problem ( Message 929 )Posted 3958 days ago by Dagorath
Could we sacrifice a goat or 2 to help things along? Or do you demand virgins for this favor? ;) |

Message boards : Number crunching : Validator and Quorum ( Message 921 )Posted 3959 days ago by Dagorath
Me neither. I was just trying to show that altruism plays a big role here too and that DC won't die if the credits stopped tomorrow. As utility rates continue to spiral upwards more people are going to question the excesses. Each and every project would do well to trim excesses now, before people leave DC, rather than trying to get them back after they leave. If supporting the credit competition is what's driving the excess then the credits have to go for the sake of the science unless some other way of awarding credits can be implemented. |

Message boards : Cafe Docking : Logo Poll ( Message 917 )Posted 3959 days ago by Dagorath Since we have several people that like the background of Atomic Booty's logo and the font in cori's logo, I was wondering if they could work together and design a new logo that takes the best out of the two logos. What do you think? I like Cori's background better than Atomic Booty's. Cori all the way. |

Message boards : Number crunching : results that are returned from different macs ( Message 915 )Posted 3959 days ago by Dagorath "There seem to be some problems with the mac intel app in that the results that are returned from different macs (Macbook, MacMini, Macpro) are not the same (they should be). We cannot reproduce this on our macs in the lab, but are currently looking into this. This currently causes a lot of pending credits for our mac users. About 80 workunits currently seem to be have affected." Actually that example suggests they all matched because the WU status is now "Done". One of the 3 didn't get credits which would be an error if the 3 in fact matched. The question is, if they did not match then why has the WU been given status "Done" and why hasn't a 4th WU been issued or at least queued? In the hypothetical case you propose (which is in fact a case that occurs frequently), the validator should draw no conclusions and should issue a 4th WU. If the 4th matches B then a 5th WU should be issued. If the 4th matches A then that would constitute a quorum, B would be declared invalid and the three that returned A would be declared valid. Who would receive credits? Well that all depends on how the project writes it's validator and whether the validator actually works. Sometimes they don't. |

Sorry you feel that way but gee, wasn't the point of your other poast to prove you're *so* much better than me? Your message is coming through loud and clear. Funny thing is, my competitive crunching is just as valuable to the projects as your angelic crunching. Motivation is meaningless. A flop is a flop. I agree, my message is loud and clear. Trouble is you just don't seem to be getting it. If we have a quorum of 3 rather than 2 just to keep your competitive crunching honest then your competitive crunching is wasting 33%. Look, have you never participated in competitive team sports? Baseball? Basketball? Soccer? There is a reason many people do this beyond exercise. It's a great way to meet new friends, and teamwork can be its own reward. Agreed. But does every single thing we humans do have to be organised into teams and a competition created? Why not just be on Team Docking and help kick disease butt. I think you are dead wrong about what motivates many (most?) personal crunchers. And that competition is critical. Without some way of keeping track, and measuring one's contribution, people lose interest. I disagree. I think you are dead wrong about what motivates crunchers and I think most would rather see the competition die than crunch 1 out of every 3 work units for nothing. Most people just get out from behind their 'puters and go bowling or join a softball league or something when they want to meet new people and kick some butt. You don't really meet people here, not really. Have you tried bowling or something like that? This "gotta be on a team and kick butt" attitude so prevalent these days is a blight on humanity. Ah. So that's why I do it.[/quote] Now it seems to sinking in. |
