I have no idea what the real problem is:

- no harm done, afaics - contrary to the mess @ AQUA
- fixed credits will be implemented here

So, go play somewhere else!

Pretest a new batch of WUs. Set a fixed amount of credits for it.

Even if there are a few WUs, that might finish earlier (or last longer?): All in all, it will be just as fair as possible.

Cosmology also had fixed credits (was it 50 per WU?) with varying wu length, but every user has the chance to get a shorter wu for the same amount of credits - instead of a few cheaters taking advantage of this crappy benchmark based credit system...

Best regards!

Since last week, we perform a checking at the server level. In particular, we check the expected credits against our benchmarks (yes, we run several tests before to distribute a new job). If the amount of expected credits does not meet our numbers, we define that job invalid and we assign 0 credits.

Michela

Well, then why is this client still getting credits?

Good thing is, many of the other obviously cheating clients got normal benchmark values now. What a miracle.

Lousy screensaver deserves huge Kudos!

But: Cheatin is still possible. Get those fixed credits, gd...

.

We are currently double-testing the new screensaver. One of our D@H volunteers identified a problem in the visualization and we have been able to fix the issue. Now we want to make sure that the code works properly before to distribute it. I want to point out how the issue with the visualization was found by one of you and this is just great because we feel that you all are part of our team.

Once we have the new screensaver out, we will have a meeting to discuss the credit issue. Again, it is very challenging to meet all the expectations but once again we will do our best.

Thank you for your support!

Michela

Whoohooo...

The Brain-Power of: University of Delaware, The Scripps Research Institute, and the University of California - Berkeley creates a new Screenserver!

Thats great!

Just an update: I managed to get it working, but the problem isnt solved.

On my desktop computer I dont need the GRPS-UMTS internet anymore, since I'm on DSL since Oct. 1st

So I could connect my Notebook via WLAN to my DSL and downloaded all necessary files for the app to run. As long as you dont change/update the images, it'll work @ work, where I need to use the GPRS/UMTS connection.

Cheers!

Hi,

Have you tried to set up the preferences for Docking@Home in Advances -> Preferences -> Network usage? There you can select "Skip Image File Verification".

Please keep us posted.

Thanks,

Michela

Yes, I have done this, otherwise it wouldnt work with other projects too.

You need to somehow tell Docking not to check checksum of image files, it doesnt matter anyway, its just pictures. ;) GPRS/UMTS connections compress pictures server side to decrease bandwidth. You can still watch those pictures, but in less quality.

You could also change file extension for images, so they wont be recognized as pictures.

Anyway, there must be a setting in the BOINC software.

Thanx for your help!

Cheers!

Hi Trilce,

on the client it does work with other projects like Spinhenge for example.

I'm just checking it on my notebook now, will see if it works - takes some time with GPRS...

If I could switch Image compression off for my GPRS/UMTS Modem, I'd do it, but it doesnt work, unfortunately.

EDIT: Doesnt work on my notebook either. Same error! :(

Hi [B^S] BOINC-SG,

I have a few questions: The other projects do skip the image verification?? I wonder if it is a problem of the client or indeed it is our project?

We'll check this out, during the day.

Regards
