Message boards : Web site : Web Site Mix-up? ( Message 5069 )Posted 2985 days ago by Rene Did browse through the menu and as far as I could see, only the "Status" --> "Server Status" is showing a blank Email and Password field. I didn't get a "strange" account name. ;-) |

Message boards : Number crunching : "High Priority" Strikes Again ( Message 5068 )Posted 2985 days ago by Rene Please note, I'm not defending Boinc's actions here, just pointing out that resource share is only honoured over a long term, not the way many of us would prefer. Lucky for you BOINC needs no defending here... ;-) Adding a project tends to "mess up" things sometimes, although mostly it's caused by either a short time to report or a miscalculation of the time to finish a wu. As you stated in the long run BOINC will come to a "fair" recource share. What users could do is, keep in mind that (when a project has a rather short time to finish a result) decreasing the "time to report" from 2 days to a lesser amount will never do any harm. Reading the boards can help in matters like this. So in short... also the user can do it's share in "damage control". |

Message boards : Number crunching : "High Priority" Strikes Again ( Message 5065 )Posted 2987 days ago by Rene Something needs to be done to reduce the number of D@H work units fetched or else increase the time allowed to complete them so that the work load is not so heavy that "High Priority" is required to get the job done in time. Once your DCF has leveled to the correct factor, running docking besides seti shouldn't be a problem. You can also set the time to connect at a smaller amount (e.g. 0,1) to decrease the amount of units to be downloaded. ;-) |

Message boards : Windows : Windows 7 ( Message 4857 )Posted 3088 days ago by Rene Well today ,after installing some updates for Win-7 beta, I did also install BOINC 6.4.5 on that host and added Docking. First wu (and only one at this moment) is running and all seems OK. Win-7 is Vista based so it should not cause any problems, but it's always useful to check... ;-) [edit] IE-8 beta is sometimes messing up the docking website, but I think this has more to do with IE-8 than the website. Might be useful to check if someone has IE-8 installed. [/edit] |

Message boards : Number crunching : Exceeded CPU time quota. ( Message 4812 )Posted 3114 days ago by Rene Hello Michela and all, Well it's been a while since my last post, but it still feels like home... ;-) The "website wallpaper" here has been replaced... and I might say a job well done..!! But back to the title of this thread; I also ran into a wu that exceeded . No harm done... also wu's that go wrong can solve future problems. Keep up the good work, Rene |

Message boards : Number crunching : Deadlines are very short. ( Message 4128 )Posted 3331 days ago by Rene Unless the <rsc_fpops_est> for each ligand type is set closer to the actual amount, time will not cure that issue. That's why I used "Time will cure that issue..." I'm sure that, with the help of usefull replies like yours, the project team will be able to tackle issues like this. ;-) |

Message boards : Number crunching : Deadlines are very short. ( Message 4126 )Posted 3331 days ago by Rene We have created more workunits and have increased the deadline to 5 days. Just picked up 2 of them, first is running in high priority mode at this moment, but I think that's because of the "Task duration correction factor" of my host. It thinks that the wu will take about 16 hours, but 3 hours will be more accurate. Time will cure that issue... ;-) |

Message boards : Unix/Linux : Question on Updating older versions of Linux ( Message 4125 )Posted 3331 days ago by Rene AFAIK in relation to BOINC there are no real problems in updating or using another linux disto. In the past I've used an installed BOINC on several versions of (K)(X)Ubuntu. Just made a backup of all the installed files from my home directory (including the projects) an re-used them after the (re-)install of another distro. To be sure you can always close your network connection on the first start of BOINC, if things go wrong there's always the backup files to be re-used if needed. That way "trashed" wu's won't be reported and no harm is done. Note: I wasn't using the "stock" clients of the distro's but did a "sh filename" install from the dl-section of BOINC. As far as Fedora goes... I can't help you on this matter.. sorry... ;-) |
