TLD; PWRGURU.....thanks for dropping in ....where's the sheepherder ....and the "Dead" sheep herder ....sure they'll be by shortly...this is going to be a blast ...I've got at least 6 more machines filling previous obligations that should migrate here in a couple days

@ the public ...the water really is perfect...dive on in everyone is welcome...I even tried to get my PDA to crunch ...didn't work

From what I can gather ..it appears we are privvy to a team thread ...but it is private and limited to members only

we @SC are what would be considered ...outspoken/Smappie do you want us to dump hundreds of posts /month here?????...what other resources do we have for a public team forum?...HELP HERE!!!

Yes you can GP. In the advanced view of BOINC, click on "tools" and then click on "Attach to project". Then enter the project url: Http;//docking.cis.udel.edu
You will be "New user" ... enter your information. Click "finish" and you will start getting D @ H wu's. (Or you will when they get some new work)

Cheers!

You're posting so you allready have an account.

Attach Boinc as DM describes using http://docking.cis.udel.edu
Next, select current member and use same email & user name used to register account.

To avoid confusing your Boinc Stats always use the same user name and email on all projects.

Smilies you need set up on something like photobucket and use img tags to display. If you need help with this I can post a how to back at the ranch if yah like.

welcome aboard 'almighty one' come on in the waters fine and the sun is shining down on us ....we have other playgrounds if you care to wander ...I'll post here once they stabilize......SeriousCrunchers has gone Boinc-Wide; so I'll be spreading my machines pretty thin until we can create a presence @ major players ...but for now we are concentrating on D@H(dat be me) and YoYo(Sphere) as well as keeping a task force @ WCG...(GP)

Orakk is holding down the fort with "SeriousCrunchers.net"

We(SeriousCrunchers) have been accepted @ DC-Vault ...so that is also a priority.....been a busy weekend

and how are you my friend?

Glad to have you aboard here GP ....a breath of fresh air ....the old place was getting stagnant!!

There won't be any new WU's here until 11/23 ....the principles are out of the office. Servers are receiving completed work but not distributing any new until their return...sorry...I tried to warn everyone to load up ....I should be good till they return .... especially if I split off with Einstein@Home

At least one machine is running WU's that will probably time out as they are 2 days beyond transfer deadline before they even start ; I'm giving an alternate project 100% now ....will be back and ready for word on 23rd ...but I won't stress if the servers can't accomidate the infux and I have to wait another couple of days

So true, so true. We the people of sujo's mind in attempt to lure the unsuspecting reader, came to a consensus that If I ,we, thems peoples bragged that the computers of sujo1 are an unstoppable force of nature.(or at least until the puters break)And thus they (the reader) might in a fit of jealousy, join the team either to shut us up or to hopefully whip our collective hinnies.(not likely but, hey at least they tried)

On another note 13,000 and counting.;)

PS: Glad to see you coming back in full.

You aren't alone here my friend ....and if things go as planned; we could vault many more slots ...a new power player is in the house and he wants ALL SCer's here for a run....I'll go for that!!!

We are doing very well for a team that only registered 6 months ago and some of the major players were AWOL most of the time { sorry about that}

Thanks Sujo,
I didn't realize that was going to be a milestone and appreciate it being noticed. I recently brought 8 more 2.83 GHz cores on-line (three days ago) and they're RAC is steadily climbing so we should be pulling the team up a few more notches over the next month. Their RAC is only about 400 each right now, but I have a similar system that's been up longer and it's rack is ~2000 at this point now that it's settled out. By mid august we should be up quite a bit. Though I've also noticed my personal ranking falling the last couple of days as well. Sigh.

We really just need to add a lot more people from the rest of the Serious Crunchers realm though. While the team is doing well I'm currently about 60% of it. Is anyone advertising/recruiting at the main website? I'm a little swamepd and don't really get over there.

We'll also take a small hit soon. Early next month I will have to take down the two slowest of my processors, but they've done a good job cranking since I joined the pojrect, but that computer is headed to the trash, replaced by one of the new 4 core systems. I love the Q9550!

Your quite welcome And you do deserve the credit and acknowledgment. As of yesterday had to curtail my crunchers for the next 2 months due to electrical consumption the temps here never get below 102-105 deg f. so am only crunching at night.Hang in there We will come back strong soon.

HiYah Tony,

This project runs well with GPU projects so I've moved 8 Amd cores to here and will copy your post back at the ranch.

A question - I have two E5420s in need of a reliable MB solution and wondered what MB you use for your Xeons?

Rob..

Tony; SeriousCrunchers are involved at HTTP://DC-Vault.com It's difficult to explain but team diversification is the key to that ...you and Sujo1 were holding the fort so I took my toys to support a couple other projects; as only a handful of us are working the system

Milestone: We finally edged out Boinc:Australia in the team rankings on Docking. Edging ahead from here will likely be impossible for somet time. We'd need a RAC increase of over 5000 units to approach the USA team.

Sport has a few nodes returning and mine are just winding back up so we will get close to a 5000 increase. This is also our transitional project for those amongst the team wanting a safe place to ween off the WCG which was our main CPU project up until this last year when we went boinc wide on all projects.

On milestones, Docking has just cleared the one mill and now in No2 CPU spot.

and http://dc-vault.com

BTW I should break 300K here; by the time you read this ...not bad for a 'Traveler' as one on our WCG bound team mates calls ...Orakk ;TLD ;SUJO1 ;Pwrguru ;Sport(datbme);and a few other part time transients

Does anyone have one more core they can throw at the project? We're consistently 300-400 RACs behind the Russian team. Just a few hundred RAC points higher and we'd move into the top 10!

You are right about the power this small team can produce. :) And to think that 4 members are on walk-about. Thank you for the job you are doing here. Due to you, the team is able to shift machines so that our global presence is rising across the board. I will stick here. (only got the 5 cores to work with.) It's not in your league, but, I will give'r all I got.

Time for the sales pitch: As tony said "wow"!!! This is the team on the go. our RAC is ascending daily. With your help we will move up even faster. Join today (bring a friend) join Team "serious crunchers"

thanks for the support Sport. Eveyrone's RAC is gonna rise quite a bit. I was looking at the credit for the new work units. . .I'm now getting about 130 credits/unit whereas I was getting about 40-60 before depending on the machine. My personal RAC might take a hit over the next few days becuase only some of my units are getting credited on the new system, and some on the old. Given the differential that's a MAJOR loss in points that we'll recover from but it could take some weeks.

Oh dear Sport, the margin was only 1 day? That can't stand...I guess I'll have to toss on 8 more Xeons :) With the addition of the extra server I'm at 32 cores and there's definiately no more to be had. But that system can do at least 6500-7000 units/day once it's up to speed so maybe we'll be able to reclaim that number 5 spot we were at for a while :)

Sorry all, my 8-core Xeon box died this morning of two hard drive failures (RAID is only so good it seems). Given that they went so quickly it's off for investigating what's really wrong with the machine (it's thrown 3 hard drives in less than a year, and this was the first time the primary went down too rendering it useless). Oh I long for the days to come when everything is solid-state. Anyway, that box has a RAC of 7200 so we'll be seeing a loss for a while. Sorry,
Tony

If you some spare ram, ramdisks can save the drives a lot of thrashing. On a 6gb W7 box I use 2gb as ramdisk with 512 of the latter running Readyboost. Also have ReadyBoost activated on an 8gb USB drive.

Whether it helps in the long term ware on drives, who knows? But the drive chatter is way down and OS response times are much quicker since setting it up.

That's good advice. It's a corporate computer so I don't have a lot of say in how it's configured. I actually don't even do that much heave I/O (or I do but off of network shares). I think the power-supply is faulty since three drives on the same port failed in 8 months, and then finally the other drive went, so it's very much an issue with the hardware somewhere. Or maybe D@H just runs the box too hot for too long. . .

Faulty motherboard or power supplies can hammer hard drives but over the years we've found these mechanical devices have little tolerance for sustained heat. Ambient temperature in South OZ during summer can hover round 40C for weeks so none of the machines I use live in a case.

Only project I ever found thrashed drives was MalariaControl in their early days but they did warn us of that drama at the time. Do let us know what the problem was when you nail it Tony.

I am in the process of bringing everything back here for a SeriousCrunch fest, I'm looking for a million @ Docking before November!

When all my machines are up to date I should be able to slam a measly 6>7K / day here

Playing with some new machines....(#1 is still down)... It is looking for a new processor and PSU to feed ATI GPU

and Orakk is right HDD's do have a definite temp range in which they operate at maximum production...the bad news is that most cases stick the hdd in a tight ...non ventilated space; this may be fine for the average user that does a save every 10 minutes ....but for a cruncher; saving every 30 seconds .....death within a year!!!!!!

Will be down 1 machine for a day or two. Decided to try out the w7 64 bit rc1. It is causing problems when installing. :p Decided to format the hd then will try to reinstall. As I am not a tech person this is getting on my nerves. I have not posted in a while so, congrats to all of you that have had milestones. This is a great team, everybody that is looking for a place to hang their hat(s) should join.

My main machine (8 cores) is finally back up and running. It was the one that had the serious hard-drive crash, then was reimaged wrong, sent back, and got it back today. RAC recovery will take some time but it's on the way. I also discovered that another machine was disconnected by a coworker who was cleaning up and didn't ask what the computer was for (it also monitors some local network stuff) so those two cores are back as well.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I finally got my main rig working again today. It's been down for well over a month (hardware problems then BOINC not working) and can generate a RAC of at least 8000 when at full tilt. We should see SC rising in the ranks very shortly. Fingers crossed that the install holds. I couldn't run the last couple of weeks due to some problem where the BOINC client refused to connect to the server. I didn't get much help on the forums around this and finally installed an older version of BOINC and it's running fine for the last couple hours. Fingers crossed it holds this time!

Oh no Sujo, where are you going? One more day and we were going to take the 5th place position (our rac is coming up at about 1K/day since I got the main machine on board, though that will trickle off as we approach steady state).

After position 5 there's no way to move ahead as the rest of those teams have INSANE RACs.

Does anyone know of any CUDA enabled BOINC projects? I used to run GPUgrid but had a lot of trouble whenever I remote desktopped into my machine. I'm doing that less and less now. I tried rejoining but it doesn't recognize the graphics card. I'm also thinking about joining a different project. I know SETI is enabled but that project isn't for me. I tried Einstein at home but it didn't send CUDA-related work. The info on most project pages is VERY limited in this regard. Anyone else here know a project they like? I have an NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700 I can toss towards a project. Thoughts?

Have a look at our forum for ongoing info, scroll down to the SC.GPU threads. http://seriouscrunchers.net/forum.php

GPU projects we're at:
Cuda - Collatz, GPUGrid & SETI and keeping an eye on Einstein,
ATI - Collatz & Milkyway.

For all projects we're at looksee here, http://seriouscrunchers.net/index.php?pageid=NexTm

A good page I keep an eye on for GPU related info is here, http://boincfaq.mundayweb.com/index.php?language=1&view=471

FX 3700 has similar specs to 9800GT so it should be fine on all Cuda GPU. Checking with GPUGrid I find your card marked green so you are Cuda able. If Boinc isn't seeing the card trying the latest Nvidia drivers may fix.

So, my main rig blew again. 4 hard drives, 7 disk rebuilds, and now all the USB ports are dead. IT finally realized this machine is a joke and we're investigating a replacement. With luck I'll get newer hardware all around and be back better than ever. Bad news is no ETA on this so my RAC will drop about 8K points over the next few days and we won't have the #5 spot again for some time. Oh well.

first and foremost TomSKinney@aol.com passes 70,000

Sorry to hear of the down turn of fortunes tony, all is good.

On another sad moment 1 of my crunchers is on the frits. Temps way beyond normal on the cpu and random shut downs. Tearing apart today, will see if new paste and a reseat will help. Started the comp and it made a popping sound twice then smelled ozone strongly. After that (never good) it booted but, the comp voltge reading are out of wack. Will reset bios and see what happen.

This is interesting!!! I need to pay closer attention to my children

I'm out gallivanting around and Sujo and Orakk are sneaking up my backside...I'm tied up with Base Camp until at least 1/8/2010 ....but 2010 ....watch out I'll be on a mission with a complete new set of toys!!!!!

Tony, I won't be doing 27K cobbles a day but 5>7K isn't out of the realm of reality at all if I can get my Xeons running!!! ...but hey we can't all be heroes>>>>Rob, John watch out! You are both out of reach before I fire up 100% again; and if need be I'll throw a Phenom Quad or 2 in just to keep you honest!!!

It cost me $220 dollars to upgrade both an Athy 2.6X2 and an Athy 2.4X1( both 64 bit) to 2.3X4 phenoms architecture ...I won't look back
(both Socket AM2+)!!!!!!!!!!for another $170 I added a 750W PSU and a ATI4850 GPU

with dual CPU @ 2.8 X2 and dual CPU 3.6 X2 Xeon machines awaiting my attention...2010 will be a very good year!!!

Actually Sport, I throw about 35-37000 credit a day. However between network outages, a virus outbreak last week that caused some forced restarts that weren't noticed for a bit, and my main rig going down so much I can't get the RAC to level out there. The main rig problems may have been sorted out. After 5 hard drive failures, 7 rebuilds, and the entire USB system going down, they finally agreed to replace the motherboard and power supply. Also, trying to get the entire rig replaced with the new upgrade, but not sure if the processors will be any faster. We MIGHT be stable now. Fingers crossed.

Tony;

What are you running that can do 15X what I'm running? When I'm leveled out at D@H 100% on a good average I'll do 2500-3K and this group of machines ain't shabby!!

Hey Sport,
I'm running 4 E5440 (16 xeons at 2.83 GHz)
3 Q9550 (12 cores at 2.38 GHz)
1 T9300 (2 cores 2.5 GHz)
And 1 AMD 4000+ (2 cores, 2.4 GHz) (off the network since Wednesday but will be back up tomorrow)

So, 32 cores total running 24/7 mostly. The T9300 is in my laptop so as you can imagine that's off-line sometimes.

What are you running?

Tony : you may have never heard of Base Camp Or World Community Grid(WCG). What we; BaseCamp do is help a fledgling team at WCG( which strictly a Bio/med project) to get on their feet and give them some acceleration and recognition.

Currently I've moved all my healthy machines to help a team named "Our FamilyForum" (OFF) to get established @ WCG

LINKS:

WCG= http://worldcommunitygrid.org

OFF= http://OurFamilyForum.org

to start @ Base Camp: http://s2.excoboard.com/exco/forum.php?forumid=21753

we would love to have you drop by for a week or two and drop some points on their behalf (There are a LOT of HEAVY hitters set up to run this).....I know you are completely confused about this

email me @ KRogers@GMX.com and I'll give you all the particulars ....if you really want to make a big difference....this is what we do

Well, I had a really hard time making any sense of those threads, except WCG of course. I read through the projects and the science for many isn't very well explained, especially in terms of what the client would be doing, and a couple of them appear to be doing very similar work. I work in a pharmaceutical company and of all the projects I've seen on distributed computing, improvements in docking from the results of the DOH experiments would have the greatest impact on my company's and my personal goals so for now I'm going to stick with throwing my full resource package at DOH. By spreading my resources thinly across several projects I feel like I would have less of an impact than really going deep with one project for which I also feel I have a stake in the results that come out of it. Thanks for the invite but I think I'm going to stay put.

Serious Crunchers is a group that basically either sticks to one project, or goes to the other extreme and bounces all over the DC Universe. Add to that the fact that most Serious Crunchers are also members of Base Camp....who's soul mission is to jump from team to team...project to project; strictly for the purpose of helping out a fledgling team or to help a team acquire a goal...and you have total Chaos! BUT Serious Crunchers have Soul ...we are all friends and respect what one another does

Joining Serious Crunchers ...you can't go wrong!!!!!

Howdy Sport, Brought over a quad to help out for a while. After installing a new os on wifes comp. I added boinc back and went to the WCG but, they say that I maxed out my daily quota of 20 wu. Not sure how that could be since it is a new install. Oh well their loss and your gain.

..Sorry SeriousCrunchers! I've been preoccupied lately...I always leave something here.....but I'm chasing Millions @ CPU Projects....((a couple projects are close ! )) As I hit a Mil at a CPU project; I'll come "FULL BORE" here for awhile before I target the next Million account

With due respect to the management of Docking I won't drop any names....but D@H was my first Million CPU, now I'm closing on a couple more..As long as I 'Crunch' I'll always have at least some kind of production here...AND I watch this account CLOSELY!
