--About Me--
Born 17 March 1973 Charlotte, NC, USA. Reside there again after living in Triangle, NC (4 months); Matthews, NC (2.5 years); and Butner, NC (2 years).
I'm 1/4 Hungarian, 1/16 or so Cherokee Indian, probably some German, and definitely English/Irish/Scottish. I can be a constipated limey, a neat-freak/detail-obsessed Kraut, a war-loving bohunk (UFC rocks!) or a loud mick with the best of them (note my b'day). I also hold my liquor well :)
Lest you think I have any political correctness in me at all, my favorite sports teams are the Washington Redskins and Atlanta Braves (and UNC Tarheels). I also like the Kansas City Chiefs to a degree, and the Chicago Blackhawks are ok with me due to their storied history.
I travel, play hearts, spades, and Texas Hold-Em, read, watch the news on TV and read it online, love sports, and collect stamps and coins. Keeping up with politics and religious issues are pursuits of mine, and gastronomy (astronomy, too) is definitely down my alley.
I sell women's and children's finer fashions on eBay under the username ►thetrendywoman◄. Mention you saw me here and get 1/2 off shipping to the USA, 1/4 elsewhere :)

--About BOINC and Me--
I have experimented with several DC projects offered by BOINC, seeing which ones produced the most results and were most deserving of my unused flops. I circulate my flops among, currently, about 70 projects. Several have no work to do, and I keep them in reserve. I prefer medical projects, anti-cancer and anti-mutant protein work such as is done here, usable natural science projects, and numeric studies of immediate import...
...as mathematical conundrums are fine to study, but limited in application at present. And that's really what the rest of everything important is. Math is man's quantified exploration and recitation of theory and hypothesis on paper; you need facts to apply to your math, not math to deduce facts. That's putting the cart before the horse, the modern phrase for which being reverse engineering.
Using and knowing the docking patterns of proteins in ways I can't even comprehend (and I'll toot my own horn; I have a good mind) to combat cancer and pre-cancerous conditions is the next step in beating that scourge. I lost a grandmother and great aunt to cancer; my father had it, but caught it early (being an MD helped him realize the signs- he's cancer-free 16 years, no chemo, no radiation :D ); and my grandfather had prostate cancer when he died of a heart attack...
I won't live forever, but perhaps descendants of mine will be able to. They won't, however, have that opportunity unless we do some serious research into the total curing of diseases, their eradication. This is a step. Screw mortality. Let's get immortal...
Thus, I want to beat this sonofabitch, this cancer thing, and I will do what I can here. I wish I could do more... any other projects that come online via BOINC that deal in protein cataloging or research... count me in. Immunology? Count me in. If it's medical, count me in...
Beyond immunological and genetic research, I am most worried about NEA's and other NEO's. So I'll help out there, too, as best I can. I hope Orbit gets some more WU's :)
